Diagonal cracking in wall pier masonry
Diagonal cracking in wall pier masonry is typical damage of shear
seismic forces. It's different if cracks appear in wall pier masonry or
in sill masonry: it depends on different aspects, if sill masonry can
transfer all forces during isteresis' cycles of seismic loads the cracks
appear in wall pier masonry, if there is difference between stickness
of wall pier masonry and sill masonry, cracks may appear in sill
masonry. It's more dangerous if cracks appear in sill masonry cause the
wall pier masonry elements are not linked and seismic forces can't be
transferred anymore.
